The just and gracious God of the universe looked upon hopelessly sinful people and sent His one and only Son, Jesus, God in the flesh, to bear His wrath against sin on the cross and to show his power over sin and death in the resurrection so that all who have faith in Him shall be reconciled to God forever. A biblical presentation and a biblical response to the Gospel includes five key elements:
God is the just and gracious Creator of all things. He is sovereign over his creation and the salvation of man. He is holy and good lacking nothing, wrapped in splendor, glorious and majestic, deserving of all glory and exaltation.
We must believe that we belong to Him, are accountable to Him, and are created to glorify Him.
We are created in the image of God, but we are all corrupted by sin. We are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are by nature sinners.
We must admit that we are sinful and helpless to save ourselves, admit areas of rebellion, be honest before God about our sin and turn from it.
Jesus Christ alone is able to remove our sin and reconcile us to God through His death. He is the sinless Son of God who died as our substitute in order to make atonement for our sin and to bear the wrath of God on our behalf.
We must acknowledge with our entire being and lives that we are helpless to save ourselves and be made right with God apart from Jesus Christ.
We are reconciled to God only through faith in Jesus. We are not saved by good works and religious activity. We can add nothing of our own merit to the cross.
Faith that leads to salvation involves turning from sin and self-sufficiency. We turn to Jesus, and we confess and trust Him as the Lord of our lives.
Our eternal destiny is dependent on our response to Jesus.
You must cry out to God to save you from your sins, put your faith in Jesus, confess Him as Lord and follow Him.
